Keywords' Importance

Keywords are exactly what they say they are – keywords. These are words that are relevant to your business, products or services, and indeed anything you want to promote online.

Keywords are exactly what they say they are – keywords.  These are words that are relevant to your business, products or services, and indeed anything you want to promote online.

For example, a car dealership will probably have keywords such as “Buy used cars”, “Car dealers” and many more associated with the industry.

Think of a keyword as a word or phrase that someone would type into a search engine, and where you would like your business to show up.

Websites don’t usually have single keywords.  Even small businesses would – in an ideal world – want to rank on search engines for as many keywords as possible, because this broadens the depth of search for which your business is likely to be found.

And let’s face it, we’re all different, and so are likely to use a multitude of different phrases to find something.

Let’s take the instance of a website selling mobile phone handsets.

In all probability, the largest search volume for this industry will be “mobile phones”.  But does everyone search EXACTLY for this?  The answer is no.  You would also want your business to show up if someone keyed in “buy mobile phone” or “buy a mobile phone” or even “purchase mobile phone”  – all these are keywords that are relevant to your business and which people are searching for.

So, how do you do this?

Well, you work in association with SEO experts such as MultiChannel Creative who will work with you to identify the main keywords for your industry with the largest search volumes and target these together.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that the largest volume search phrases will also be the most difficult to rank highly on as there will be the most competition, so it is often a good idea to target the lesser searched for phrases and keywords to obtain a higher percentage of click-throughs…..but that is for another time!
